Incense, Conical Hats & Ceramics: A Craft Village Exploration – 7 hours

Discover the timeless charm of Northern Vietnam’s traditional craft villages in your Hanoi tours, where heritage is not just preserved but brought to life through the hands of dedicated artisans. Just a short drive from Hanoi, these villages offer a fascinating look into Vietnam’s cultural identity—from the colorful incense-making alleys of Quang Phu Cau, to the graceful art of conical hat-making, and the renowned ceramic legacy of Bat Trang Pottery Village.

Full Itinerary

Morning:

After pickup from your hotel, meet your tour guide and head to your first stop, the Quang Phu Cau incense stick-making village. Learn more about the techniques from local artisans as you walk through the village. Stop at some places in the village to take some awesome photos.

Then, let back on the car, and hop to your next destination, just 15 minutes away, the traditional conical hat-making village. Not only observe but also get involved in the process of making and painting your own hat, a souvenir to remember your day. You will have the chance to make your own conical hats here.

Lunch:

Continue to a local eatery for have lunch.

Afternoon:

After bidding farewell to a hat-making village, depart for Hanoi city center to visit Bat Trang Village. The village is surrounded by fertile farmland and is well known for its beautiful ceramics. Bat Trang is filled with wall-to-wall shops selling ancient and modern ceramics. It is not only a booming business, but also the trade helping to keep the traditional crafts alive.

Have a chance to chat with the local artisans at work or try sitting behind a potter’s wheel to see how they create ceramic vases and other masterpieces in their kilns. In order to make products with different shapes, the artisans must perform many processes from choosing clay, drawing, dealing with and mixing additives, forming shapes, heating, and more to finish products. This work needs meticulous and hard-working artisans. Take photos with the craftsmen and buy gifts for your relatives or friends before returning to Hanoi. During the walking tour, we will also make a stop at a local workshop to watch the process of making ceramics and you can design your own ceramic bowl or teacup.

Our final stop will be the Center of Vietnam Quintessential Handicraft, located at the heart of Bat Trang. Walk through the museum floors to see how the village’s cultural values were preserved and kept alive then we go up to the top floor with an open garden and get a peaceful view over the Red River.

At the end of your memorable experience with Hanoi Local Tour, relax as we are transported back to your hotel, reflecting on our creative and exciting journey.
