FULL ITINERARY
Begin our Hanoi tour adventure with private transport, approximately an hour’s drive, as we introduce you to the fascinating world of Vietnamese lacquer art and the historic Ha Thai village, renowned for its lacquerware craftsmanship dating back to the 17th century.
Upon arrival at Dung Di Art Studio, nestled within this historic village, where we’ll be welcomed by the talented artist Tran Cong Dung, who will guide us through the intricate process of creating lacquer art. With his expert guidance, we will have the opportunity to craft our own lacquer piece, a truly unique souvenir from our visit. Artist Tran Cong Dung will start with a brief introduction to Vietnamese lacquer art, explaining the technique of eggshell inlay and how it is applied to lacquer art. He will also provide an overview of the tools and materials we will be using in the workshop.
We’ll then dive into the hands-on experience by working on a pre-shaped 20cm wooden lacquer base. Here’s the step-by-step process we’ll follow:
- Designing: Carefully arrange and glue eggshell pieces onto the wooden base to create our own unique design.
- Smoothing & Finishing: With the assistance of the studio team, complete the lacquer process by polishing the surface to achieve a smooth, refined finish, ensuring our piece is beautifully crafted.
The entire process will take around 1.5–2 hours, leaving us with a stunning piece of art to take home.
After the workshop, take some time to explore the studio’s collection of lacquer pieces, and perhaps purchase a few unique items as keepsakes. At the end of your memorable experience, relax as we are transported back to Hanoi, reflecting on our creative journey and the artistry of Vietnam’s traditional lacquer art. Trip ends.
